By Ashley Thiesen Caldwell | September 5, 2009

The Charleston Battery and their fans are excited for the upcoming post season. The Battery has played extremely well this year, attaining 12 wins with just 4 losses and 10 ties. Their record is good enough for third position in the standings, a mere six points behind the first place Portland Timbers.

For the newcomers, the Charleston Battery is an American professional soccer team founded in 1993. The team plays in the USL First Division (USL-1), the second tier of the American Soccer Pyramid.

The team plays its home games at Blackbaud Stadium, located on Daniel Island, SC. The stadium holds 5,100 people and is very ecologically friendly. In 2008, much of the stadium was converted to solar energy through the use of solar panels. The panels are said to offset as much as 12 tons of carbon dioxide per annum.

The next home game for the Battery is this tomorrow, Sept. 6, at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island. Gates open at 5 p.m. and kick follows at 6 p.m. The Battery will be taking on the Minnesota Thunder, who is currently in 9th position in the standings with a record of 5-12-8.

Tickets for the 2009 post-season are on sale now with three game packages available. Charleston will likely host its first playoff match on Sunday, Sept. 27, opponent TBD. To reserve your playoff tickets or for more information please call (843) 971-GOAL (4625).
