2010 Family Circle Cup Coming to Daniel Island, SC

We’re just a few months away from one of the most star-studded, exciting events the Charleston, SC area has seen. For the 10th year in a row, the famed Family Circle Cup is coming to Daniel Island, SC!

On April 10-18 at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Daniel Island, thousands will descend upon the 2010 Family Circle Cup. This year’s event marks the 10th year this tournament has been played in Charleston.

The Family Circle Cup is a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Tour affiliated professional tennis tournament for women, held every year since 1973.

From its inception in 1973 to 2000, the tournament was held at the Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island with the exception of 1975 and 1976 when it was played on Amelia Island off the coast of Florida. It moved to Charleston in 2001.

The No. 1 ranked women’s tennis player in the world, Serena Williams, has officially entered the tournament. She is joined by former World No. 1, Maria Sharapova; current World No.4, Caroline Wozniacki; World No. 7, Victoria Azarenka; and 18-year-old American standout Melanie Oudin. Many other top players will officially enter the tournament in the coming weeks.

The Family Circle Tennis Center has officially begun its search for volunteers. More than 500 positions that need to be filled in a wide array of areas like: guest services, transportation, ushering, food service and the ticket sales. Family Circle Cup individual session tickets will go on-sale to the public through Ticketmaster on Friday, Jan. 15, and will be available 24 hours a day at Ticketmaster.com. Tickets can also be ordered through Ticketmaster over the phone at 800.745.3000, or at any local Publix location offering Ticketmaster services.
